OUR PURPOSE

By promoting fonio we aim to enhance farmers’ livelihoods, strengthen climate resilience, and boost food security.

As a “female crop”, our investment in fonio empowers women who are the primary moving force for agricultural advancement in rural communities.

FATMATA BINTA – Meet Chef Binta, a contemporary nomadic chef hailing from Freetown, Sierra Leone, deeply rooted in Fulani culture, customs, and cuisine – the largest Nomadic group in West and Central Africa. Raised within a Fulani community, her culinary journey began early, drawing inspiration from her surroundings and heritage. Following in the footsteps of her ancestors. Chef Binta has embarked on travels across various countries, exploring diverse cooking techniques, ingredients, and ways of life, thus carving her path onto the global culinary stage.

OUR PILLARS

I felt a profound urge to reciprocate the warmth of those who embraced me. Their generosity in sharing their wisdom and time ignited something within me. Thus, the Fulani Kitchen Foundation came to life from that very essence.

Our mission is simple: to illuminate the richness of our heritage, a treasure trove of flavors and experiences that promise to captivate visitors worldwide.

“I started traveling across Africa for inspiration for the nomadic kitchen, and immersing myself in rural areas that allowed me to explore unique and stimulating culinary avenues. The knowledge I gained through my exchanges with the keepers of authentic recipes was so enlightening from a personal and professional perspective.”

For the Fulani Kitchen Foundation, documenting and preserving traditional local cuisine, infused with the precious and unique Fulani character, is paramount. Our heritage and distinct traits form the very foundation of this rich culinary tradition, embodying a wholesome reality that we are committed to safeguarding.

The dialogue we aim to foster is one about how to protect and nurture indigenous knowledge of gastronomy, framing it as an experiential project.

With the transformative mindset of broadening people’s horizons and provide an outlook on ancient traditions and grains, we strive to understand all together the ingredients of the traditions and the fundamental role they play in advancing and repairing our food system.
